Port Appin - Scotland West Coast

Welcome to The Old Ferryhouse

In a spectacular position, on the shores of Loch Linnhe with panoramic views over the loch to the mountains of Kingairloch beyond, this charming semi-detached cottage is part of the original ferryhouse dates from c. 1770. With a fascinating historical background, the Old Ferryhouse has been sympathetically modernised to create a holiday home of unique character with many original features.

This 2 bedroom cottage has been recently refurbished and has a lounge and a sun lounge with fantastic views over Loch Linnhe. Situated 50M from the local store and within walking distance of two award winning restaurants, this accommodation offers an outstanding base from which to explore the local attractions of Argyll.

The very picturesque village of Port Appin is an ideal base for exploring and Oban is within a 40 minute drive. Day trips can be enjoyed to Glencoe and Fort William or by taking the passenger ferry from Port Appin across to the island of Lismore. Cycle and boat hire can be arranged locally and other activities include fishing, pony trekking and hill-walking.

Idyllic location and an outstanding house 10/10

This return visit to the OFH was even better than the first. The well-equipped, comfortable cottage with its historic features has one of the best views I've seen in a lifetime of global travel. And it's a five minute walk from the award-winning restaurant at the Pier House Hotel.

A very comfortable stay in an exceptional cottage with superb views 10/10

TOFH is a traditional west coast cottage restored to a high standard. The sun room overlooking the loch is exceptional, the views are amazing, always changing with the weather. The cottage is very comfortable, soft sofas and a lovely double bed with high quality bedding. The kitchen is well equipped with washing machine, fridge and freezer etc. Plenty of room, TV if needed, but the views of the loch and wildlife were more than enough. There’s a community food store in the village, run by volunteers, a gift shop and two restaurants (didn’t use them so can’t recommend). The pedestrian ferry to Lismore is very close by, visited the island twice to see the wild flowers. A truly superb cottage in a stunning location.

Location and stunning View 10/10

Thanks Doug, we have had just an absolutely lovely time again. And thank you - the house is lovely and has such thoughtful details - like the hot water bottles and tuppawares and leaving plenty of toilet paper and some clingfilm/oil/tea/coffee that tide you over when you arrive... the heated blankets and spare duvets, the little notes with info, plenty of fire wood, iron and ironing board, cleaning materials and hoover which we found very handy... and all very comfortable. Thank you very much! Ellie April 2024

10/10 Home from Home

Spacious, full of character, views to die for - bad weather not a problem because it’s difficult to tear yourself away from the conservatory watching the wildlife(otters included) and the constantly changing views. Great for kayaking/cycling/walking from the doorstep This was our 4th stay in The Old Ferry House and hopefully not our last

10/10 This is my favourite part of the West Coast and the cottage is in the heart of the village but secluded too It’s full of character, comfortable, clean and stocked with wonderful books and maps. The owners were friendly and welcoming.

9/10 Location was unbelievable. Right beside Loch Linnhe
Beautiful views and large windows to see the view. Excellent host, very clear instructions about everything. Easy access. Small fault with shower fixed very quickly. Excellent broadband, TV and heating. Lots of thoughtful things like adapter strips for power, many guidebooks, kitchen consumables, rack for stuff in bathroom. Well equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds. Space to sit outside beside the loch. New carpet in lounge.

9/10 The property was absolutely made by its location and stunning view...
...but we also found the beds very comfortable and enjoyed the cosy fire, and little comfort details like the electric blankets on the bed and the electric heater in the bathroom. We also found out host very helpful. It felt homely, practical and relaxed all the time.

10/10 It was for me the most beautiful cottage I have had so far
The most beautiful room was the conservatory with fantastic views until late at night right on the water The host was always available and very friendly and helpful. I can only recommend the Old Ferryhouse and I will definitely be back.

10/10 Fantastic stay in a really special location
We had a wonderful week at the Old Ferryhouse. Of all the many cottages I've stayed in over the years of visiting Port Appin, this was the absolute best for location - incredible to be right on the shore, and also in the heart of the village. The kids loved playing on the shore and paddle boarding in the bay. The sun room overlooking the shore was such a lovely space; that view! We had a great stay - spacious bedrooms, comfy beds, well equipped kitchen, plenty of hot water. We also really appreciated all the books and games.
